I'm happy to have Zeke on my blog this week!
Zeke, how long have you known that you were a writer? Did you receive a clear “call?” Or have you just loved writing all your life?
I have always enjoyed writing, but it mostly took place in relation to schooling assignments or sermon preparation. In regards to writing a book, I did receive a clear call from the Lord to write concerning Biblical submission. Honestly, I never saw it coming! With that being said, I am greatly anticipating writing much more in the future.
Well, it sounds very interesting, and I'm glad the Lord laid it upon your heart to write. What is the genre you write in? Would you explain what it is?
I am a Christian non-fiction writer. Most of my work concerns discipleship and Christian growth/ development.
How do you spend your writing days? Do you set goals to reach a certain number of words per day? Can you give us a general idea of how long it takes you to write a novel?
Trying to juggle family, work, and ministry has been a nice challenge. I usually try to write in blocks of quiet time. This usually takes place in early morning hours or during my children’s nap time. SUBMISSION actually took a little less than one month to write. Of course the editing process added to that, but the actual book came together fast.
Sounds as if you've handled it well. You recently had a book published. Would you take this time to describe it to us? How and where can readers buy your books?
Working with Burning Lamp Media and Publishing was a true privilege. From editing to cover design, they were very accommodating to me as a first time writer. We are currently working on the marketing aspects of the book. Although we plan to offer them in bookstores nationwide, SUBMISSION is currently only available on Amazon and at our website: www.submissionministries.org
Good! What is the spiritual message in your book? What can readers expect to get from reading it?
My prayer is that each reader will walk away with the desire to submit every area of their lives to Jesus. Often times in the Christian faith, people have a tendency to plateau. I have been guilty of this, and found it to be due to the fact that there were areas in which I refused to let go. Hopefully upon reading this book, brothers and sisters worldwide will surrender like never before and position themselves for revival and spiritual greatness.
I'm really interested in reading it myself. Do you ever feel like giving up? Most people don’t understand the stress, the work, and the joy of being a writer. How tenuous becoming a writer is. Do you care to share how it feels, what discouraging/encouraging times you’ve gone through?
Discouragement is a popular tool of the enemy as he would love to see Christian writers give up. When discouraging moments emerge, I make a conscious effort to step away and seek the voice of Jesus. Amidst the business, it is easy to lose focus on our primary purpose: intimacy with Jesus our Savior. This occurred in my life to the extent that I decided to move my family away from our home simply to seek to heart of Jesus. My wife and I and our two baby boys took a journey that changed our lives. We set aside all the distractions just to have time with our Lord. Actually, it was during this three month getaway that the Lord asked me to pen SUBMISSION!
If only we all would do this! Who’s inspired you the most?
My pastors and my wife have been great inspirations to me as a writer, minister, and leader.
Would you explain how you “chose” (or were chosen by) a publisher? Do you just go “inny, minny, miny, moe?” Now, that you’re published, can you sit back and relax from the success you’ve experienced?
God truly orchestrated and directed my relationship with Burning Lamp. Upon completing the manuscript, I began to research different Christian publishing houses. Days before I was to sign with a company, I shared through a phone conversation with Founder Brian Hume about what the Lord was doing with my life. I told him about the book and he shared with me about the beginning stages of Burning Lamp. Despite the fact that our phone conversations usually consisted of us praying about other ministry possibilities, it was obvious that God had placed us together in this moment for this task. Because I am the first author for Burning Lamp, I had no other feedback to consider. Looking back on it, had it not been for the up close and personal feel of Burning Lamp, I may not have even followed through with the process. It is nice to be published, but I would not describe it as relaxing based on the fact that I constantly have a stirring to write more. As for finding a publisher I can relax, but it terms of what God has next, I remain in a state of expectation.
Do you mind telling us some of your likes and dislikes? Hobbies, interests? Where would you like to travel if you could?
I love to work with my hands and actually operate a small ornamental concrete business. I construct various objects such as bird baths, benches, flower pots, etc. My family and I enjoy missions work and we have traveled extensively. We love outdoor activities and sports. If I could travel anywhere, I would choose Italy. My wife would greatly enjoy a trip like that. My main interests involve being a Godly husband, father, and pastor and living each day with joy and appreciation for what God has blessed me with.
Would you give us your blog or webpage so everyone can check it out? Anything else you’d like to share? Promotional information?
Please feel free to check us out online at www.submissionministries.org and on Facebook. You can find out more information about our publisher at www.burninglampmap.com. To get a copy of the book visit- http://www.amazon.com/subMISSION-heeding-only-His-voice/.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Prepare to be stirred by this authentic calling to return to Scriptural obedience.
—Pastor Gabe Turner, The Point Church of Charlottesville, Virginia
In my opinion Zeke has laid his finger on the defining message for our time. This message is essential for believers everywhere . . .
—Eric Stephens, Pastor of Life Changing Ministries and Fellowship in Sugarland, Texas
What is the greatest challenge that the Church is facing today? Zeke Lam suggests that one word is the greatest challenge: submission, or the lack thereof. It is not external forces that nullify the testimony of a Christ-centered believer, but rather the failure to humbly submit to the voice of the Lord. This book will help you to live a surrendered life abiding in Christ.
Ø Is the approval of God more important to you than the approval of man?
Ø Is the presence of God evident in your life?
Ø Do you fiercely protect your intimacy with Christ?
Ø Do you desire to live a life of truth, free from the lies of the devil?
Ø Is God’s divine character visible to those around you?
Learn how to submit your life wholeheartedly to the Lord so that you can dwell continually in the secret place—a place of intimacy, surrender and joy.
ZEKE LAM is the founder of SUBMISSION Ministries—a ministry devoted to seeing lost souls encounter God and live lives fully surrendered to the risen Christ. A graduate of Liberty University, Zeke’s deep passion for following Christ’s will has led him through many years of youth ministry and itinerant evangelism. Both of these experiences have enriched and fueled his desire to hand others the keys to a Christ-centered life. Zeke resides in Virginia with his beautiful wife, Kathleen, and a growing family of future world-changers.

Romances to Remember by Ann H. Gabhart
Don’t you just love a great romance story? Romance has been in the air ever since Adam was lonely in the Garden of Eden and the Lord gave him Eve. I can see Adam searching out the prettiest flowers to bring to her.
We need romance in our life. It makes the days brighter and the nights sweeter. And books more fun to read. Some romances are so much a part of our literary background that you only have to mention the names to conjure up the romantic scenes. Romeo and Juliet. Rhett and Scarlett. Anthony and Cleopatra. And from the Bible, Jacob and Rachel or David and Bathsheba.
What makes a romantic couple unforgettable? Passionate love and obstacles. The course of true love never runs smooth. I think Charles Dickens was the first one credited with saying that, but it’s been something many writers have used to their advantage. Take a woman and a man and have them fall madly in love. Enter the writer who throws complication after complication at them until the reader fears that the characters’ love is impossible. Then again, perhaps we shouldn’t put all the blame on the writer. Life can throw complications enough at us and that’s what writers try to do – present life in fictional form.
That’s what I intended to do with Words Spoken True. I took a slice of history, 1855 in Louisville when many of the citizens were very concerned, even fearful, about the increasing immigrant population. The newspapers wrote editorials worrying that the many Irish and German newcomers were going to take over the country once they obtained the vote. A political party sprang up to try to exclude these immigrants from holding office. So I dropped my characters down in the newspaper business and made my heroine, Adriane Darcy, an independent thinker who cares little for the social customs of the day. She only wants to keep helping her father get out his newspaper and stay the number one paper in Louisville. Then Blake Garrett comes to town and takes over a rival paper and becomes their main competitor.
Naturally, when the two finally meet at a benefit tea, the attraction is immediate. Ah, but there are complications. He’s the enemy who’s trying to destroy her father’s newspaper. She’s engaged to Stanley, the son of a socially prominent man running for office – a man her father owes a great deal of money. Blake’s bringing a new style of journalism to Louisville that includes headline stories about a serial killer. Adriane’s determined to beat him in the headline war even if she has to chase down the headlines herself. Her father keeps pushing her to marry Stanley. Blake’s determined to stop that from happening. On a terrible day in Louisville history known as “Bloody Monday,” Adriane and Blake are forced to make some dramatic choices. And the romance and obstacles escalate.
Words Spoken True is the most romantic story I’ve written in years. My Hollyhill books had a sweet romance line running through all three books, but it was just one thread among several story threads in that family drama. Then my Shaker books were definitely historical romances, but with the Shakers’ beliefs that all should live as brothers and sisters and that romance and marriage were sinful, the forbidden romances had to sneak into the story. With those books, I kept my readers wondering how the two main characters would ever be able to find romantic happiness or if they would. In Angel Sister, the mother’s and father’s romantic beginnings are a parallel story to the family drama as they work their way through obstacles to their happiness then and in the present time of the story as well, but again that’s only a part of the book.
But with Words Spoken True, I was able to let the romance take center stage. The historical background is there. The newspaper background is there, but so is the romance with plenty of obstacles that I hope will keep the readers turning pages to see how it all turns out in the end. Here’s a bit of what Camillia, a reviewer for Long and Short Reviews had to say about the story.
“Ann Gabhart weaves a beautiful tapestry of a tale with the golden thread of love shining among the varying dark shades of evil in political corrupt, prejudice, and disregard for human life. The iridescence of Adriane and true blue of Blake woven in with the golden thread make a beautiful design, while the pastels of society ladies create part of the landscape design that seems to get mixed with the dark designs of evil. However, some of the secondary characters have varying shades of golden threads, some rather tarnished and some finely polished with age, and some even a little dirty and unpolished, but they enrich this compelling story.”
You can read the entire review at http://www.longandshortreviews.blogspot.com/2012/01/words-spoken-true-by-ann-h-gabhart.html
If you read Words Spoken True, I hope you’ll be rooting for Adriane and Blake to find true love in spite of all the obstacles springing up to keep that from happening.
So what are some of your favorite romances?

A Bit of My Life

B is for boys
I had two sons. Sometimes I've felt like I was in a boys dormitory, but most of the time I loved it. My guys were adorable, irritating, smart, ornery, funny, sweet, hyper, smart-mouthed, precious and loved very much.
Sometimes I would have sold them for a nickel (not really!) and other times wouldn't have taken a million dollars.
Now I have three grandboys, the youngest two weeks old today (how time flies!). I can't thank God enough for these three blessings and only pray he keeps his hand upon them and helps them to grow up loving him.

A Review
by Elizabeth Camden
Back Cover:
In the small town of Colden, Massachusetts, Libby Sawyer leads a quiet, predictable life. Yet beneath the surface, she is haunted by a secret.
Newly arrived on American shores, Michael Dobrescu is far from predictable, and his arrival in Colden is anything but quiet. Michael’s shocking claim to be the rightful owner of Libby’s father’s house immediately alienates him from the appalled citizens of Colden.
Despite her own outrage, Libby is unwittingly fascinated by this enigmatic man who seems equally intrigued by her. As the court’s decision about the house looms, and the layers of mystery surrounding Michael’s past are unveiled, Libby’s loyalties are tested in ways she never imagined.
My take:
I found Elizabeth Camden’s “The Rose of Winslow Street” to be amazingly intriguing with the perfect touches of mystery and romance. Her characters are well rounded and captivating.
From Liberty Sawyer, who carries a secret shame, a spinster who has given up on finding romance but has plenty of love to spare. To Michael Dobrescu who is everything a hero should be. Strong and determined to do what is right for his family; Michael has the strength of a bear and the heart of a lamb. From the snooty southern bell all the way down to the towns stray cat.
The depth that she put into the characters makes you fall in love and connect to each one. The vivid detail and description pulls you in and makes this novel a real page turner. Beautifully pinned, the scenery is virtually tangible. I could almost smell the roses and the jasmine.
What secrets do these two hide? Michael's desire to protect the sister and Liberty's haunting fear of roses is touching and pulls the reader into the plot of the story. A definite page turner!
It is truly the best book I have read all year!
Blessings!

A Warm Welcome to My Friend, Peg Phifer
It's such a treat to have Peg today. She was one of my first critique partners. For a chance to win one of her two giveaway copies (an e-print and a paperback) please leave a comment AND your email address. Limited to those in the lower United States. Now on to her interview:
How long have you known that you were a writer? Did you receive a clear “call?” Or have you just loved writing all your life?
There was no clear ‘call’ that I can point to. But I knew He called me. Does that make sense? I love creating, the process of taking something, and idea, a concept, and making it happen. I used to design my own paper doll clothes. I love to sew, knit, crochet and do a lot of other handcrafts. Or at least I used to before arthritis invaded my hands. So, yes, along with those other creative things, I love to write. That is a creation effort in a field of its own.
True! What is the genre you write in? Would you explain what it is?
I write Romantic Suspense, which is a delicate balance of romance mingled in with all the danger and suspense. Mine seem to have a little less romance and more suspense. At least this first book does.
Well put, Peg. How do you spend your writing days? Do you set goals to reach a certain number of words per day? Can you give us a general idea of how long it takes you to write a novel?
I’d love to be a goal-setter, but I’m not. Every time I try to establish a set writing time or word goal I fail. I’m a horrible manager of my own time. TO SEE THE SUN has taken me a total of, um, 20 years, give or take. That’s because I couldn’t find the right character and setting to bring it together. I’m praying the next one won’t take that long, because the Lord might not grant me that long to write another book.
And I'll be anxiously waiting for the second book. (She's a great writer, folks!)Tell us about your new book. What is the spiritual message in it? What can readers expect to get from reading it? How and where can readers buy your book?
There really is no solid spiritual message. I’m not made that way. It is written from a Christian Worldview, but the ‘message’ is covert. There’s no “Christinese,” no spurious or gratuitous in-your-face religion. Yet I believe readers will know there is a firm foundation of faith, that the characters are real.

Do you ever feel like giving up? Most people don’t understand the stress, the work, and the joy of being a writer. How tenuous becoming a writer is. Do you care to share how it feels, what discouraging/encouraging times you’ve gone through?
Yeah, there have been a number of discouraging things that would make me think about quitting, but the Lord wouldn’t let me. My husband doesn’t “get” the writing thing and that’s probably the hardest part. Now he’s delighted that I’m finally published, another battle looms over the marketing journey. And, of course, there’s the work of writing Book Two
Who’s inspired you the most?
I think, of all the many wonderful writers I’ve met and those I admire out there, I’d have to say James Scott Bell, first of all, and then Ronie Kendig. Jim Bell is more suspense than romance, while Ronie writes a more balanced mix. At least that’s what I get from them.
I agree. Would you explain how you “chose” (or were chosen by) a publisher? Do you just go “inny, minny, miny, moe?”
Nope, it’s one-potato, two-potato! Seriously, though, my first contract was a totally God-thing. There was no proposal, no synopsis, no agent . . . it just happened through a private email loop where I was asking questions through the writing over the past, oh, three years, I guess. But last spring we mutually nullified the contract. Then I was recommended to Ellen Maze, an Indie who loved the book and took me on. So, I am one of those self-published authors. The whole experience has gone well. I’m pleased.
I'm thrilled for you. Indie publishing is growing nicely. Now, that you’re published, can you sit back and relax from the success you’ve experienced?
I’d love to! But no, I’ve got Book Two to finish and start this process all over again. A process I love, despite the occasional, discouraging stumbling blocks.
Do you mind telling us some of your likes and dislikes? Hobbies, interests? Where would you like to travel if you could?
I don’t like gossip or gossipers. They destroy. I love pizza and Mexican food. I love handcrafts of all kinds. Unfortunately, I can’t do them anymore. Arthritis has invaded my hands and I just can’t make them cooperate on the small stuff. But I can still play the piano, and type! Thank God for that, or I wouldn’t be responding to this interview. J
Where would I like to travel? I’d love to take what used to be called the Grand Tour through Europe; I want to see England, Scotland and Ireland, my heritage; I want to go on a cruise.
