On Passionate Writing . . .

There are thousands of thoughts lying within a man
that he does not know till he takes up the pen and writes.
~William Makepeace Thackeray

And how to get them down on paper unless you pick up that pen
(click on those computer keys!)
and start.

That's it.
Just start.
You may get one
maybe two
or ten
great sentences.
Could be you might even get down a super terrific chapter.

But how will you know WHAT you can do,
how will you know what's bottled up inside your brain
unless you . . .
pick up that pen,
click on those keys--
begin writing!

Who knows what's waiting in your brain?
Maybe the next great classical book.
A bestseller.
Or a book that will touch one--or a hundred--hearts.

Let's get to writing.
Passionate writing!

Monday Morning Gratitudes

A husband who knows how to fix things
A husband who can read between the lines
A husband who likes to please
A husband strong enough to "take a stand" when needed
A husband who provides
A husband who believes in tough love in a gentle manner
A husband who brings me flowers
A husband who gives
A husband who eats what I prepare
A husband who'll eat hotdogs two Sundays in a row.

Sunday Morning Peace

Think on These Things

What have you done for the Lord today?
Can you think of the vanished moments and say:
"I spent them every one for my Lord.
I started the day with His precious Word."

Then I lifted my heart in prayer to Him,
Till heaven was real and earth was dim,
And my Savior was personal and dear,
And all day long I could feel Him near.

He guarded my tongue, my feet, my ears,
Dispelled my worries and stilled my fears.
He showed my that only those things would last
Which I did for Him, and that time sped fast.

He taught me that nothing was ever too hard
If it was done in the strength of the Lord.

And all through the hours, as the moments sped,
I, the body, and He, the Head,
I lived so that all that I met could see
His Holy Spirit shining through me.

Reviews . . .

Hummingbird by David Stearman

Father murdered while a baby and mother taken from her through stupid and vile men, Alexandra was raised in an orphaned state. When her brother gets in too deep with a gang and must have funds to pay the boss, Paco, for not getting them from stores that are “protected,” Alexandra turns to a past boyfriend, Justin, for help.

In return, they rob a store and then must run for their lives to Mexico. From one city to the next, until finally he leaves her, Alexandra finally finds herself in a small community that is host to thousands of beautiful hummingbirds. She befriends a young boy who also is her mentor in catching fish for the local café.

Her past creeps up on her to keep her from a truly happy life but after giving herself to Christ, she is a witness to those around hers, and besides the young Palito, whom she counts as a son, befriends a young prostitute and leads her to Christ. Young Lexa enters into business propositions with the neighborhood café and learns to take care of herself financially.

After several close encounters with a bounty hunter who is in Mexico illegally to bring her back to the states, she accepts God's leading and protection and learns that family and home is where the heart is.

A truly wonderful novel that kept me reading and reluctant to close the book each time I needed to. I certainly highly recommend this novel to all! It will be on my "keeper" list. Smile.

Firsts in Fiction by Aaron Gansky

A wonderful nonfiction book that is perfect for writers. It's handy small size is delightful for writers to carry to read as they wait for appointments, checkout lines, and traveling. The chapter headlines grab attention:
* The Case for the First Line
* But You Should See the Other Guy: Conflict
* A Duck Walks Into a Pharmacy: Character
* Beg Your Pardon: The Unexpected First Line

and many more delightful titles that get you right to the heart of the topic you need.

But don't be deceived by the small size. This book packs a walloping lot of material in it and gets down to the nitty-gritty of writing a powerful novel.

I love this nonfiction writing book and look forward to passing copies of it on to several beginning writers I mentor! Grab YOUR copy today.

Children of Dreams by Lorilyn Roberts

My heart swelled with emotion, tears formed in the back of my eyes, and my whole being yearned for this precious woman to receive the answer to her prayers. I could see her suffering, picture the child in the poor state of her father's care, and feel the love pouring from Lorilyn onto her little girl.

If you want a better understanding of what adopted parents go through to achieve a dream, what many children endure to exist in the world, and the hope that prevails in spite of Satan's power, you'll want to buy this e-book for your own.

A truly touching tale and one you'll not regret buying.

Duck Dynasty - Hunting for Spiritual Truths

I'm happy to welcome a fellow writer, Alisa Franz, today.
Enjoy her guest post and be sure to check out her book!

She's willing to give away an e-copy of her book to one commenter!

Family/Small Group Discussion Guide -Season 1

I do not love hunting, duck calls or mud on my butt! I do, however, love Duck Dynasty and the Robertson family.

I first learned of Duck Dynasty while watching the previews before The Hunger Games movie. After the movie I went home and set my DVR to record the new reality show. I’m not much of a reality show fan but I love humor and I love the Lord. I knew this was going to be an absolutely hilarious, wholesome show that my whole family could watch together. I’ve never been more right about anything! And I’ve never wanted to write more about anything! The life lessons the Robertson’s cleverly share on A&E television are what so many families and churches are desiring.

I can not say that I have met the Robertson family. Nor can I say that I have received any endorsements from them. I’m praying that A&E and/or the Robertson family will one day express interest in this study and will contact me. Until that day my agent is waiting to hear from a publisher that may print the Kindle version of my book. That will be a glorious day!

Duck Dynasty - Hunting for Spiritual Truths was launched on Amazon on March 29, 2013 in the Kindle Store. Everything I learned about publishing an eBook, I learned from author, Jeff Goins at
http://goinswriter.com. It wasn’t a particularly difficult process and it was cost efficient. On average from beginning to end an author may spend approximately $500.00 for cover design and Kindle format conversion. I have currently moved over 1,300 eBooks. It has been greatly accepted and I am thrilled with the feedback to date.
The Lord instilled in me a passion to write about Duck Dynasty and gave me the strength to see it to completion. I pray God will use this small group/family study guide to further His kingdom and all glory be to Him.

An excerpt from the diary of Louisa C. Warren, my great, great, great Grandma... “Another week is entered upon. No telling what a week may bring for it. May my kind, Heavenly Father give me grace and strength to bear all that is to come, what must come soon, and may my trust be in Him. Oh I am so glad I ever learned to trust and love God. I often feel that without this confidence in the Lord I were without a guide, and like the ‘lost mariner on the sea.’ Oh that every one in need would only put their confidence in the blessed Redeemer. Not only the afflicted (for all are needy) but those whose life seems all bright, for I think the love of Jesus helps us to better enjoy the blessings of earthly joys.” (October 14, 1866)

All to Him I Owe,
Alisa Franz

Release date for The Redemption of Caralynne Hayman is closer with September 2013 as the tentative date. Keep watch on this blog and facebook (http://www.facebook.com/CaroleBrown.author) for the exact date and for news on its progress.

Now on to Max's Short Stories. Be sure to check them out. Enjoy!

Just Verdicts -
Literary Short Stories,
by Joseph Max Lewis

Changing pace after his action packed debut novel, The Diaries of Pontius Pilate, Joseph Max Lewis displays his versatility with a short story collection titled Just Verdicts, stories of legal suspense, told from a more intimate, first person perspective.

Ann via Goodreads read “Diaries,” and “Just Verdicts”: “Wow! . . . You can't help but be filled with emotion reading these!"
Five out of Five stars.

Hunting Lawyers – A troubled man victimized by the legal system decides to hunt lawyers. Neither he nor his prey are likely to escape unscathed.

The Judge’s Eyes – Gulf War Veteran Ralph Jackson returns to Iraq after the second Iraq war as a legal advisor to Isha Hami, Iraq’s first female Judge. When Isha defies Iraq’s deadly political factions, Jackson’s legal and military skills are put to the test.

Redemption – (Previously released) After a personal tragedy, Steven Burgess allowed himself to sink into self-pity and his law practice into disrepute. Now he has one last chance, but will it lead to ruin or Redemption?

Just Verdicts - Literary Short Stories by Joseph Max LewisPerfect for a plane trip, long car ride or a Doctor’s waiting room and available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble for 99 cents.

As with his novel, The Diaries of Pontius Pilate, a portion of his royalties goes to support Pine Valley Camp, a Christian Ministry that provides a free camp experience for inner city kids.

About Max:
Joseph Max Lewis served as a member of an Operational Detachment in the U.S. Army's Seventh Special Forces Group, the storied Green Berets. During his service Lewis received antiterrorist training and his detachment was tasked to "Special Projects." Afterward, he served as an instructor at the Special Forces Qualification Course. Lewis attended the Pennsylvania State University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the University of Tel Aviv in Israel, and the University of Pittsburgh, receiving degrees in International Politics and Law while being certified in Middle East Studies.

After living and studying abroad, first in the Middle East and then Southeast Asia, Lewis returned home to practice law. He’s a columnist in the New Bethlehem Leader-Vindicator, author of The Diaries of Pontius Pilate and currently lives, writes, and practices law in and around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Check out this writer. He does a fantastic job of keeping your interest centered on the story!

HEALING EMOTIONAL TRAUMA by Arteria Stevens

I caught this post from reading another friend's mention of it. Checked it out, and it was so poignant I thought it would be perfect to share with you. I look forward to more posts from my new friend, Artemia Stevens.

Since my novel, The Redemption of Caralynne Hayman, deals with abuse (along with other things), it goes right along with it. Now on to the post:

HEALING EMOTIONAL TRAUMA BEGINS WHEN YOU DECIDE TO FACE IT!

By Arteria Stevens

After all of the emotional disturbance and traumatic events of my childhood, when I got married, my intention was to put it all behind me and live the life of a good girl by being a good wife and mother and never complicating matters by talking about my child sexual abuse. What I didn’t realize was that because I didn’t acknowledge the pain and instead tried to bury those painful memories, the memories would act out in different ways in unhealthy forms. I became dominating and controlling, I lacked trust, and I had a determination to be strong and never show pain, so when I was hurt, I showed anger instead of pain. I didn’t allow the process of healing emotional trauma from those instances of emotional disturbance to begin. I wasn’t dedicated to healing emotional wounds.

Now I understand that the root source of anger is pain but during those times of trying to run from my pain, I didn’t have a clue. I went through many years trying to find myself. What I realize now that I didn’t know then is that when you find yourself stuck in patterns, it’s because there is something you need to learn and something you need to change in order to break those reoccurring problems. When I took that closer look in the mirror, I saw myself running from all of my pain and fears and at that moment, I decided I was not going to run anymore. I faced all of the painful moments in my life. I didn’t run from the tears anymore. I didn’t run from the fear of confrontation anymore. I was no longer afraid of the pain.

I realized that the pain was a necessary part of the process for me to heal. That put me on my Healing Roads and I am finally moving ahead in my life with a passion to be joined on that Road by all those people who may be holding on to pain of the past or present in search of personal healing as well as spiritual healing. We are more alike than we are different. The Healing Roads website is dedicated to helping you as you travel your own healing road by connecting you with people who understand your emotional state as well as to supply you with healing books to help you on your road. You are not alone! Get ready to come to your own place of discovery, healing, and stress relief!

Let’s talk. Let’s share. Let’s find help. Let’s love. Let’s heal. Let’s change the world. Let’s grow. Let’s have peace.
