No matter the circumstance, she will put her children first before her own needs are met if need be.
I have seen my mother do that very thing many times. She taught me how to do it in my own life. However, there are some things that life just doesn't prepare you for.
When our oldest son had cancer, in the midst of having chemo treatments and doctor appointments, there was one appointment that will always stand out to me for various reasons. This particular appointment, another doctor was called in that neither of us knew. His duty was to get bone marrow to test and store. Matthew was lying on the table on his abdomen, enduring the hand-operated drill going into his back, just above the hip. He was in terrific pain. There was nothing I could do to comfort him. I tried and failed. I was helpless! I tried to distract him and myself from what I was seeing and the pain he was feeling. It was worse than whistling in the dark. Really, it is hard to explain how I felt. Finally, the ordeal was over and the doctor carefully took his drill out and immediately, blood squirted out and as I was looking across the room, I saw blood running down the wall. Really, he seemed more like an absent-minded professor! Matthew, having had trouble with a bloodclot in his chest was on a blood thinner. They didn't know till I told them. In that doctor's hurry to get the job done, neither he nor his assistant had read his chart to find out that fact! The doctor acted surprised that there was blood across the room on the wall. His assistant immediately cleaned it up and they didn't stick around after they got the bleeding under control. I hope I qualify as a good mother. I have tried very hard with God's help to be what my children needed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
