A Weird Contest . . .

How would you like to meet this friendly guy in your backyard?

How often do you use animals in your novels?

Tell me about a favorite pet and you could win a prize
(at least two books if I really like yours!)
if yours is chosen!

Blessings!

Our backyard friends resemble Bambi more than Smokey. I haven't used animals in my stories so far. I was told that cozy mysteries usually have a cat in them but being the obstinate wanting-to-be-out-of-the-box writer that I am, my cozy mystery, Murder Among The Orchids, has a "pet" plant instead.

I'd LOVE to see that big guy in my backyard! I have A Thing for bears...which may be why my first novel features a Polar Bear as a Main Character ;o)

My favorite pet? Well, I think I'd have to go with my snugglebunny...I've got a 13lb rabbit, b&w, and she thinks she's a cat. Because I found her when she was really little, and so she grew up with my two cats (one of whom is in the picture with her, hehe). They taught her horrible habits, LOL! But she's big and warm and snuggly. Much snugglier than my friends' rabbits (thanks, kitties!) :o) When I'm stressed, I love to go scoop her up and let her curl up on my chest, head tucked under my chin, and just have some fur therapy...

See my pretty girls: Anne Shirley is the cat, and BabyCat is the rabbit :o)

I love animals, but on Gannah (the planet in my Gateway to Gannah space fantasy series), they're all evil. This stems from my trying to not project too much of myself into the story and characters.

A story about backyard bears: My parents used to have a black Newfoundland. They owned a duplex, and access to the upstairs apartment was gained by going around behind the house. One time their upstairs tenant had a guest come to visit, but instead of going to the tenant's door, she knocked on ours in front. The woman said she'd gone around to the tenant's door, but there was a bear in the yard, and she was afraid to go back there.

My favorite pet? That's hard to say, since we've had a lot of them. Probably Kodiak Jack, the Alaskan malamute we had until about 10 yrs ago. We found him wandering my mother-in-law's neighborhood, fully grown, apparently purebred, and well cared for, but without a collar. Inquiries to neighbors as well as the police department turned up nothing. We'd been wanting a dog, but had very narrow specs for what we could accept under our circumstances at the time. This dog met every one of them, including being housebroken and gentle with small children. He was as perfect a dog as was ever created. A few years later, he was hit by lightning -- and lived. The veterinarian said he'd never known of a dog to survive a lightning strike. He took pictures and gave talks at seminars about it.

Sorry to ramble on so long, but... you asked!

I don't have a favorite pet, but I can tell you that at one point, we had in our household two cats, one dog, three guinea pigs, three rabbits, three fish, two dart frogs, three hamsters, and six mice. The only problem was, with the cats, the fish kept disappearing . . .

My favorite pet is my sweet baby... he is now 11. A rescued min pin named Puppy. He keeps me going since I have heart problems among other things and really need to walk daily. Just got his physical and his dental work done yesterday and the vet says he is in perfect health. We do have a bunch more dogs here but he is the only one that is mine.

No, don't think I'd enjoy running into that bear in my backyard!! I have 5 cats - just lost one recently and it seems like someone is missing. As for using animals in my books, I don't. For some reason, even though I LOVE animals I'm not a big fan of animal stories or movies. There are a few exceptions but not many. I do enjoy a cat or two in a book such as a cozy mystery though.
