On Passionate Writing . . .

Drama,
instead of telling us the whole of a man's life,
must place him in such a situation,
tie such a knot,
that when it is untied,
the whole man is visible.
~Leo Tolstoy

 Mysteries.
Romance.
Real life situations.

Scary
Emotional
Warming.

Problems that must be solved.
Situations that must be gotten out of.
Emotions that must be heeded.

Life we all live through.

Writers must bring REAL life to our novels, our material.
Events and statements and actions that
literally drag the willing reader to the edge of his seat with intensity.

Doesn't have to be an end-of-the-world scene,
but it must keep you turning the pages.
It must keep you reading longer than you'd planned.
Staying up later than you should have.
To find the answer.

It can be as quiet as the soft cooing of a dove
or the plink of one drop of rain.
But it must build a questioning--a desire for answers--in the reader.

Drama.
Passionate writing.

Blessings!

Well said. I hope to someday write a story that will keep the reader turning pages, staying up a little longer than she planned!
