Impossibilities
You cannot curb a flower
Nor hold a tree aloft;
A vine that reaches high
May climb upon your roof.
You cannot hedge a butterfly
Nor fence around a bird;
You cannot brush a dream aside
Nor hold a hope absurd.
You cannot lease lovely things
Nor buy joys with payment down;
He who dares not walk with beauty
Wears no emeralds in his crown.
