Now let's see what she has for us today:

Blurb:

In The Scottish Lass, sailor Fiona Campbell is captured and forced to accompany a band of cutthroats on their quest for a lost treasure. Shifty Samuel Trafton has betrayed his friend Elwood Stark and stolen Stark’s new ship from under him. Fearing for her life, Fiona fends off her kidnappers and prays Captain Alice and her crew will come to the rescue. Meanwhile, sailor Tommy Mercer tries to help Fiona and suffers for his efforts. Can Fiona save Tommy’s life? Will Trafton keep her captive when he leaves the islands?

Widowed Alice Packard is approached by Stark, but she can’t trust him. Stark was her friend Josiah Howard’s first mate, but Josiah’s gone on business, and she can’t get his opinion. Alice has many lives depending on her, and she can’t afford to make a mistake. Could Stark be in league with Trafton to gain control of the Vera B. as well as Stark’s schooner? Join Alice and her crew in another seafaring adventure.

Tell us, Susan:

What started you on your writing journey?

I’ve always had stories in my head. I started writing fiction seriously as an adult. My first published book was a historical, Protecting Amy, and I’ve been blessed to have more than 90 books published since then.

What kind of books do you enjoy reading?

I read a wide variety of books, but my favorite is one with a bit of mystery.

Which character in your new release most interested you while you wrote? Why?
Fiona Campbell is one of the Vera B.’s crew. We saw her in book 1, but we learn more about her in this story. She had a rough start in life, and Captain Alice Packard rescued her from a brothel in Australia to serve on her ship. But now Fiona needs rescuing again. She’s trying to stay strong and keep her enemy at bay, but she’s not sure she will succeed.

Are there spiritual themes you like to write about?
This series (Hearts of Oak) is about rescue. It’s connected to an ongoing theme I have in most of my books: forgiveness and reconciliation.

Share a verse or Scripture passage with us that is special to you. (and why it's special)

Psalm 48:14 says, “For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even unto death.” It reminds me that even in the worst of times and the hardest changes, God is constant.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?
My next cozy mystery from Guideposts will release May 5. It’s called Tea Leaves and Legacies, and it’s Book 27 in the Tearoom Mysteries series. Elaine is left a bequest by a person she barely knew, and she needs to solve a mystery to claim it.

This series is new to me, and a woman as the captain of a ship was definitely rare for that time period. An adventure awaits!
