Serious Wednesday: Variations of Mystery Books

What are some, if not all, types of mystery books?

  • traditional, cozy, malice:  cozy settings (which can be in a city as long as the setting is confined and cozy)
  • Golden Age: took place (roughly) from the late 1900s thru the end of WWII.
  • Hardboiled PI:  a loner who works for justice in a corrupt world.
  • Noir:  works carrying a pessimistic view of the world; emerged during the 1930s.
  • Paranormal/urban fantasy:  echoes of nineteenth-century Gothic works.
  • Police Procedural:  follows cops in their investigations.
There are more...and subgenres that include suspense and other genres in the writing.

Are you writing a mystery book?
What subgenre are you using?
