My Five Favorite Things I Love About Autumn by Renee Blare

What fun to have my new friend, Renee Blare visiting today and sharing about her love of Autumn! Do feel free to tell Renee, and me, what you love about this season. And be sure to check out her book!

1. Football
Whether it be the NFL, college, or high school, I love to watch football. I can’t wait until the weekend rolls around and the games start. Hopefully, my fantasy football lineups are picked in time! If I’m fortunate enough, I may win enough to keep me going until the next round. A simple pleasure for a busy time of year and God’s way of reminding me to chill out.

2. Change
It’s a beautiful time of year in the Black Hills. Yellow, orange, and red bathes the whole area and takes the breath away. From Spearfish Canyon in South Dakota to Sand Creek here in Wyoming, it’s something that can’t be missed. We take in this awesome sight every year in October before a bitter frost or the cold wind strips the trees of their leaves. God’s creation is so glorious.

3. Hunting
There’s nothing like Autumn in Wyoming. Something quite remarkable happens. Everything turns bright
orange…and I’m not talking about the trees! Everywhere I look I see fluorescent this and fluorescent that … it’s kinda cool. If it wasn’t for the fact that I can’t hit the broadside of a barn with my gun, I’d probably welcome all the hunters with open arms. Still, I have hope for bagging a big 24-point buck. HAH, I’ll settle for a 2-point. For you southern folk, we only count the horns on one side in Wyoming.

4. Baking
This time of year I officially dig out the bakeware and dust it off. I love to bake. The problem? I don’t have time…or should I say a reason…any other time. My husband and I don’t eat a lot of sweets. But Fall rolls around and Thanksgiving inches closer and BAMMM! I have a reason to bake! Here comes the cheesecake. And the pumpkin pie, chocolate pie, cinnamon rolls, and cookies. The list can go on and on. I may attempt bread pudding this year. Heeheee…hope my son likes it.

5. Pumpkins
Pumpkins are everywhere! At the grocery store, in our garden, even at work. Pumpkin candles, pumpkin pies, pumpkin scents, pumpkin...well, pumpkins. I love to carve them with my family. We turn it into a big event at our house every year. My son’s an artist and makes pottery. He loves to sculpt the pumpkins into something artsy. My husband’s not so bad at art himself and likes to carve them into comic characters such as Scooby Doo or Bugs Bunny. I’m the simple one of the bunch, but I get ‘er done. In the end, we have a display of carvings worthy of the neighborhood.

Book Blurb:
To Soar on Eagle’s Wings, A Snowy Range Chronicles, Book One
Spring’s in the air. While the sun shines in Timber Springs, snow falls on the Snowy Range, and trouble’s brewing in the meadows. The area’s new game warden, Steve Mitchell launches his first wildlife investigation of the season, but the trouble follows him—straight to town.

Rachel Fitzgerald’s on Spring Break. Or at least she’s trying. Between paperwork, and harassing phone calls, she may as well have stayed in her classroom. So much for relaxation. A ‘chance’ meeting with her brother’s old roommate offers her weary soul a shred of hope, but she discovers love, like life, isn’t easy.
He talks with the wisdom of the Lord but rejects the future. She wants to soar with the eagles but walks alone. And trusting God proves to be more of a challenge than ever before…

This is a great list - especially football! And then the World Series happens too. And basketball and hockey. A great time for sports! Thanks for the post, Renee.
