My Favorite Things I Love About Autumn by Jodie Wolfe

Thrilled to have my friend Jodie Wolfe with me today sharing about her Five Loves of Autumn. Enjoy!

1. The Smells - I love the smell of the leaves as you walk through them. Then there's the scent of hot apple
cider, apple crisp hot from the oven and the smell of the apples as they become ripe on the tree. I love to have either an apple or pumpkin candle burning once fall hits. Sorry, I couldn't limit it to just one smell. :)

2. The Sounds - While I'm not crazy about raking, I do love the sound of leaves as they crunch and rustle under foot. Almost every year when my sons were still at home we would take a fall leaf hike up on the mountain near us. There's was something about that sound as we trekked through the forest to be the first to find a unique leaf.

3. Change of Temperature - I really enjoy when the weather begins to turn cooler. I love to take a stroll early each morning and I find it invigorating to walk when there is a briskness to the air. Somehow it makes me feel more alive.

4. The colors - I live in PA and this year the colors were exceptional. Each morning as I walked in my
neighborhood I took stock of what new trees were beginning to show signs of color. I truly enjoyed seeing the progression from the first hint of hue until now when very few leaves are remaining on the trees.

5. What's to Come - While I truly have enjoyed the colors, sounds, smells and cooler temperatures, my most favorite thing about fall is that winter is right around the corner. :) Winter is my favorite season because I absolutely love SNOW. My friends are always giving me a hard time in winter because whenever there is any threat of precipitation, I'm the one praying for snow. :)

Tickled that one of my favorite people (and not just during the Autumn season) is visiting today. Read on to find out what's on her list!

Autumn is one of my favorite times of year. Here are 5 reasons I love autumn.

1. Sweaters: I love to wear sweaters, and in Autumn I can get them out of storage.

2. Leaves: Who doesn't love when the leaves change colors? This is a picture from my land in Tennessee
with the autumn leaves changing.

3. Fall Back: I love getting the extra hour of sleep I missed when we sprang forward for Daylight Savings Time.

4. Décor: The colors for fall are so warm and bright. I love to decorate my house for autumn. Here's a flower arrangement I made.

5. Thanksgiving: Autumn means Thanksgiving is coming. I love to have everyone for Thanksgiving and cook a feast from scratch. I'm a pretty good cook. And I love to get out my pretty dishes and set the table for Thanksgiving Dinner. Here's my table from last year.

Honorable Mentions: I also love Autumn bonfires, hayrides, and corn mazes.

My Five Favorite Things I Love About Autumn by Renee Blare

What fun to have my new friend, Renee Blare visiting today and sharing about her love of Autumn! Do feel free to tell Renee, and me, what you love about this season. And be sure to check out her book!

1. Football
Whether it be the NFL, college, or high school, I love to watch football. I can’t wait until the weekend rolls around and the games start. Hopefully, my fantasy football lineups are picked in time! If I’m fortunate enough, I may win enough to keep me going until the next round. A simple pleasure for a busy time of year and God’s way of reminding me to chill out.

2. Change
It’s a beautiful time of year in the Black Hills. Yellow, orange, and red bathes the whole area and takes the breath away. From Spearfish Canyon in South Dakota to Sand Creek here in Wyoming, it’s something that can’t be missed. We take in this awesome sight every year in October before a bitter frost or the cold wind strips the trees of their leaves. God’s creation is so glorious.

3. Hunting
There’s nothing like Autumn in Wyoming. Something quite remarkable happens. Everything turns bright
orange…and I’m not talking about the trees! Everywhere I look I see fluorescent this and fluorescent that … it’s kinda cool. If it wasn’t for the fact that I can’t hit the broadside of a barn with my gun, I’d probably welcome all the hunters with open arms. Still, I have hope for bagging a big 24-point buck. HAH, I’ll settle for a 2-point. For you southern folk, we only count the horns on one side in Wyoming.

4. Baking
This time of year I officially dig out the bakeware and dust it off. I love to bake. The problem? I don’t have time…or should I say a reason…any other time. My husband and I don’t eat a lot of sweets. But Fall rolls around and Thanksgiving inches closer and BAMMM! I have a reason to bake! Here comes the cheesecake. And the pumpkin pie, chocolate pie, cinnamon rolls, and cookies. The list can go on and on. I may attempt bread pudding this year. Heeheee…hope my son likes it.

5. Pumpkins
Pumpkins are everywhere! At the grocery store, in our garden, even at work. Pumpkin candles, pumpkin pies, pumpkin scents, pumpkin...well, pumpkins. I love to carve them with my family. We turn it into a big event at our house every year. My son’s an artist and makes pottery. He loves to sculpt the pumpkins into something artsy. My husband’s not so bad at art himself and likes to carve them into comic characters such as Scooby Doo or Bugs Bunny. I’m the simple one of the bunch, but I get ‘er done. In the end, we have a display of carvings worthy of the neighborhood.

BIO:
A pharmacist by trade, Renee Blare serves northeastern Wyoming by day and writes any chance she can get. While writing’s her first love, well, after the Lord and her husband, she also likes to fish and hunt as well as pick away on her classical guitar.

Nestled against the Black Hills with her husband, crazy dogs and ornery cat, she pens her Christian suspense stories and invites you check out her website, blog, and social media.

My Favorite Things About Autumn by Sharyn Kopf

What fun to have my author friend visiting today! You'll enjoy Sharyn's take on her favorite things about Autumn. Chime in on YOUR favorites too!

1.  My favorite month—Anne of Green Gables said, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” This expresses my feelings exactly! And with my birthday right in the middle of the month—on the 15th—how could I not love it?

2.  My favorite smells—from the apple pie-scented candle I’m breathing in right now to the campfires I’m sure my family will enjoy over the next few weeks, the aromas of autumn stir my spirit and encourage me to breathe deeply. Ahhh.

3.  My favorite clothes—near the end of September I pulled out my bag of slippers in anticipation. Yes, I have a plastic bag full of fluffy, cozy slippers in a variety of colors. Then there are the soft, long-sleeved shirts, the thick, snuggable sweaters and a beloved pair of comfy, pink boyfriend pants—like sweats only better. And cuter.

4.  My favorite food—since Thanksgiving lands into the middle of fall, even if it feels like winter by then, I can include it. And I enjoy the typical Thanksgiving feast of turkey and all the trimmings—plus my family’s tradition of homemade noodles—more than anything. But autumn also includes big pots of chili, S’mores around the campfire and my famous fudge. Yum!

5.  My favorite season—the beginning of fall means the hot, humid days of summer are over and the cool days are just beginning. The trees blanket the earth with an array of bright, warm colors against crisp blue skies. I sleep better and, usually, exercise more. And Christmas is less than three months away. Yay!

About Sharyn:
Besides writing and editing, Sharyn’s career history includes journalism, public relations and seven years as a radio writer/producer at Focus on the Family. She also has almost two decades of experience as an editor and proofreader. In addition, she has taught English and speech at the high school and college levels and is developing a speaking ministry geared toward encouraging older single women.

During her spare time, Sharyn plays the piano, makes the best fudge ever, enjoys long walks and short vacations (or is that short walks and long vacations?), and watches too much HGTV. She lives in Bellefontaine, Ohio, just five minutes from some of her favorite people in the world—her family.

About Sharyn's books:
In 2014, award-winning author Sharyn Kopf decided to take charge of her own writing destiny by independently publishing her first novel,  Spinstered, which received a 2014 Bookstore Without Borders LYRA award for its category (women’s fiction).

A few months later, she published a novella in the famous Chicken Soup for the Souls Christmas Collection and , , ,

. . .
this past April, released a nonfiction book titled Spinstered: Surviving Singleness After 40.

Now she’s working on the sequel to Spinstered, titled Inconceived.

The Five Things I LOVE about Autumn by Jamin Baldwin!

What fun to have my dear friend and critique partner, Jamin Baldwin on my blog this week! Read on to find what she loves about Autumn, and share your favorites too!

Five things I love about Autumn
With so many beautiful things its hard to choose, but here is what I have narrowed it down to.

A slow drive.
Once the leaves begin to change, I always enjoy a slow Sunday drive on a winding country road. Preferably one that includes plenty of rolling hills.

Chilly nights & a crackling fire
The perfect Autumn night includes:
A porch swing, a fire pit, a cozy flannel, a cup of your favorite warm brew and a good conversation with someone you love.

Harvest time!
The gathering of all our garden produce and storing it up for the winter, is a fun time in our home. We make everything from tomato juice and pickled peppers, to blackberry jelly and salsa. There's nothing like garden veggies in the dead of winter.

Soup is super!
My children are hearty soup eaters. Although chilli is a family favorite, I do love a hot bowl of potato soup. Or what my family calls 'Mullighan'
It includes: potatoes, ground sausage, and a veggie of your choice. We put green beans in ours, while my Mother prefers carrots in hers.(Don't forget to add plenty of basil)

Quilts
While its sometimes too hot during the summer to really enjoy quilting, Autumn weather is perfect. Quilting always reminds me of my grandmother. It seemed as though she made quilts year-round. Often, when I piece together a quilt, I think of her.

And these are the things I love most about Autumn.

About Jamin:
amin Baldwin is a new, up-and-coming author whose writing interests span everything from historical romances to poetry and devotions. Along with home schooling her own children, she is also a volunteer in the children’s ministry at her church. The simplicity of country life is an insurmountable influence on all her writing endeavors.

Five Things I Love About Autumn by Jennifer A. Davids

Happy to have fellow author and friend, Jennifer Davids with me today! She's sharing HER Favorite things about Autumn. Be sure to let her know what yours are. AND if you comment, you'll be in her drawing for a FREE kindle copy of her book: BUCKEYE DREAMS!

The Five Things I Love About Autumn by Jennifer A. Davids

Pumpkin Spice EVERYTHING – I know, I know, this is a popular one. But, hey, this is the only time of year I can find these babies at my local Wal-Mart. Who, BTW is the only store around here that carries them. My other local stores only carry the huge jugs that need to stay refrigerated. I guess they
think everyone carries around a mini-fridge in their purse. Hmm…I do have a big purse… Anyway, I love these in my coffee but I also love to slip one in my morning oatmeal. Try it. You will love it.

COLOR – How can anyone not love looking at those beautiful trees God paints just for this season? Deep
reds, glowing orange, and yellows that more than stand in for the sun on cloudy days. Every year, my family and I go down to Hocking Hills southeast of Columbus and enjoy all the autumn colors. It’s the perfect way to enjoy God’s creation with the added bonus of walking off the calories we just consumed since we also eat breakfast at Waffle House before heading down.

PERFECT TEMPERATURE – I love that Autumn is cooler. I’m not a fan of summer. If I had it my way, it would be this temperature year-round.  Even where I live in Ohio, it gets hot and the A/C in my house runs for 4-5 months straight. Even though I don’t turn the air down as low as I could, it still sucks a lot of money out of our budget. Autumn gives me the chance to turn off my air conditioner without having to turn on the heat. And later, as fall edges into winter and I do have to turn on the furnace, I love that initial smell of dusty warm air that fills the house.

OHIO STATE FOOTBALL – Oh, come on. I’m a born and bred Ohioan and an Ohio State Alumni. Did you really think this wasn’t going to make the cut? I, and everyone else in Ohio are understandably proud of our National Champions. O-H-I-O!

ACFW – The highlight of my entire year. Except for next year, the American Christian Fiction Writer’s
annual conference is held in September, and I get to see people I only ever see in cyberspace via Facebook or email. I cherish those three and a half days I get to commune with my tribe.

So there are my Five. Is there something else that you love about Autumn that didn’t make my list? Leave a comment and you will automatically be entered to win a copy of my latest book, Buckeye Dreams, in ebook format.

Thanks for joining us, Jen!

The Five Things I Love About Autumn by Cindy Thomson

I welcome my fellow author and friend, Cindy Thomson today! Be sure to check out her book links listed at the bottom of the page! Now, let's find out what Cindy loves about Autumn!

  1. Sunshine I have always said that Ohio has the best weather of any place in the month of September (which usually extends into October as well.) The main reason is because there is abundant sunshine and low humidity (most days.) That means the sky is a gorgeous blue that I could gaze at all day long.
  2. Apples. We have a huge apple orchard not too far from our house. People drive from all over to go there, and it’s practically in our backyard. Apple picking is not only fun, it means we’ll have the best, freshest apples that we can only get this time of the year!
  3. Hammock Time. While we use our backyard hammock in the summer, it’s best in the fall when the air temperature is more comfortable and there aren’t as many pesky insects. Nothing better than a blanket and a book on the hammock!
  4. Cozy season. Autumn for me brings an urge to nest, settle in, freshen up the house because we’ll be spending more time indoors.
  5. Pumpkin Everything! I love pumpkin treats from pumpkin lattes to pumpkin muffins. The smell of pumpkin bread or cookies spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg baking in the oven just makes me happy!

The Five Series of Autumn

What are Five of my Favorite Things about Autumn?

  • Leaves. I love the colors and the crunch
  • Cooler weather. Love being able to don sweaters and sweatshirts, cooler weather clothing
  • Weiner Roasts. Autumn begs for roasted hotdogs and toasted marshmallows, smores for the kids -- big and little -- corn on the cob, the fire warming one side of your body at a time, and old fashion hictory/sassafras sticks
  • Decorating. Love, love, love decorating for Autumn. Wreaths, and lights and colors. Pumpkins, and hay bales, and Crysathemums. Gorgeous time.
  • Desserts and other "Fallish" food I don't eat much through the year. Autumn is the best time to eat certain desserts like pumpkin pies, bringing out the soups, and other cooler weather foods. Who wants to eat soup on a 90 degree day?
What are your favorite things about Fall?
Blessings!
