The Magic of Aging!

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

"How old are you?"
"I'm four and a half!"
You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.

You get into your teens--now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

"How old are you?"
"I'm gonna be 16!"
You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16!

And then the greatest day of your life. You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk. (He TURNED; we had to throw him out.) There's no fun now, you're just a sour dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21,
You TURN 30,
Then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes--it's all slipping away.

Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But wait! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle:
you HIT lunch;
you TURN 4:30;
you REACH bedtime.

And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92."

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!"

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

Some hints to keep you young! Smile:

After Bath Splash
Fill a plant mister with your favorite after bath splash. You can spritz yourself from head to toe without wasting a drop.

Bath
Add a capful of perfume to your bath water. Soak in the scented water for ten minutes.

Dead Skin
Rub a small amount of Miracle Whip (not mayonnaise) into your skin and let it dry a few minutes. While your skin is still slightly moist, massage it vigorously with your fingertips. You'll be surprised at how much dead skin will roll right off. This treatment is very good for feet, elbows, knees and face.

Eyelashes
Your eyelashes will grower thicker and long if, every night before retiring, you rub lashes with castor oil.

Eyes
Before retiring, apply castor oil around your eyes. Make sure it is the odorless form. Plastic surgeons use this on their patients following surgery.

A.A.A.D.D.

You know, I don't consider myself OLD. (No comments, thank you!) Then why do I find myself carrying out two, three, or more tasks at the same time and forgetting what I was doing? I told someone I thought I was getting Alheimizers, but they replied, "No, you're just too busy."

Whatever the problem, I know I have way too many things to try to deal with most of the time. Some times I'm on top; other times, things weigh me down.

Here's a funny illustration, I thought some of you might enjoy and connect to:

"Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it develops:

I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose, I look over at my car and decide my car needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mailbox earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox, when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my checkbook off the table, and see that there is only 1 check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the study to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the
counter catches my eye--they need to be watered.

I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, get some towels and wipe up
the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills a ren't paid, there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, the flowers don't have enough water, there is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.

Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember to whom it has been sent.

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!

AGE AND MATURITY ARE NOT NECESSARILY RELATED.

P.S: I just remembered. I LEFT THE WATER RUNNING IN THE
DRIVEWAY!"

Pet hints:
  • Don't let your pets have: chocolate (everyone knows that!), macadamia nuts, garlic (and all its relatives), and grapes and raisins (can cause anemia in SOME animals).
  • Never let puppy do anything you don't want an 80 pound dog to do. Ooooch. So right!
  • Don't let puppies lick you in the face; the older they get, the wetter and sloppier they get. And you don't know (or do you?) where those tongues have been!
  • Doggy breath? Put parsley in his food once a day. (Works for people too!) AND don't forget to brush doggy's teeth! Yeah, I said that. Smile

AND tomorrow's the day, folks. Cindy Woodsmall's interview. Have you checked out her website yet?

A Woman Looks in the Mirror
Purple Winter Sailor Hat

Age 8. Looks at herself and sees Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty . . .

Age 15. Looks at herself and sees pimples, fat, ugly.
Mom, I can't go to school looking like this.

Age 20
. Looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin; too short/too tall; hair too straight/too curly" but decides she's going anyhow.

Glittering Purple Cowgirl Hat

Age 30. Looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin; too short/too tall; hair too straight/too curly" but decides she doesn't have time to fix it, so she's going anyhow.

Age 40. Looks at herself and sees too fat/
too thin; hair too straight/too curly; too tall/too short, but says "At least I'm clean," and goes anyway.

Age 50. Looks at herself and see "I am" and goes where she wants to.

Purple Camouflauge Jungle Hat

Age 60. Looks at herself and reminds herself of all the people who can't even see themselves in the mirror any more and goes out to conquer the world. Purple Knot Hat

Age 70. Looks at herself and sees wisdom, laughter, and ability, and goes out and enjoys life.

Age 80. Doesn't bother to look. Just puts on a purple hat and goes out to participate in what she wants.

Age 90. Can't see and so doesn't worry about it!

Classic Purple Up-Brim Hat with Gold Trim
Maybe we should all grab that purple hat a little earlier!

Isn't that just like the stages of life? When 15 we think we know it all. Sigh. By the time we're thirty, we realize maybe our parents did know what they were talking about. When we reach 50, suddenly much of what we were so concerned about when younger, isn't important anymore. And at 80, we don't even think about those use-to-be-important-things. We're just happy we've got another day to live!

I reiterate: take one day at a time. Enjoy every aspect.

Sharon guessed an "ostrich egg." If you guessed something else, you were wrong! Today's question is: How many stars are there in in the big dipper?

Oh, my. When I read this in Today's Christian Woman, I thought: just the thing for Mother's Day/May Month! Any of you longing to do something for one of our soldier boys, well, here's your chance. Check it out.

Adopt-a-Soldier

While stationed in Iraq, U.S. Army Sergeant Juan Salas learned how important letters from home are to deployed servicemen and women.

"A letter was like a piece of gold," he says. Now a student at Manhattanville College, Salas has launched www.mysoldier.com, through which civilians can receive a starter kit that includes the name of a soldier to write to and suggestions for putting together a care package. "It doesn't matter what you think of the war," Salas says. "Let's support the troops."

Don't forget about the Mother's Day contest. We've got two contestants, both with good name suggestions. Check out yesterday's blog to find out all about it, but don't wait too long; it ends Friday.
