Rambling Friday: Are You Due for a Good Laugh?

A Bagpiper Tale . . .

Warning! If you hate to laugh, DON'T read this tale. :)  If you're needing a laugh today, read on. . .

As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a grave-side service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Kentucky back-country.

As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost; and being a typical man I didn't stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight.

There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down, and the vault lid was already in place. I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play.

The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around . . . I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I've never played before for this homeless man.

And as I played 'Amazing Grace,' the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, and we all wept together. When I finished I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car.

Though my head hung low my heart was full.

As I was opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "Land of the living, I never seen nothin' like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for over twenty years!"

Quote: Wouldn't it be nice to have this said about you? Consistent and persistent!

Rambling Friday: Silly Things

I think I should never see
something as silly as a...

donkey in a basket

a girl in a hammock
hanging over a city

or a chicken giving me a
thumbs up!

Squirrels having a party...

an owl pretending to be a spider...

a potato so shocked at his future...

A wooden band in the woods...

But then,
I haven't seen everything in the world.

Smile today.
Give yourself a break.
Enjoy life.

Downright Funny! from Crazy Me

One of life's mysteries
is how a two pound box of candy
can make a woman gain FIVE pounds!

I don't understand.
I'll never comprehend.

Could it be the box
that entices the recipient to partake?
Or it just might be the smell emanating from said box.
No, I think it's the color of the delights inside the box.
Or better yet, the fillings!

Can we say, "The devil made me do it?"
Or "The temptation was just too great?"
Or maybe even blame it on "I'm addicted to chocolate."

Wait!
Hold on!
I'll be back in a sec . . .

I've got to sample just
one . . .
more . . .
piece!

Sunday Morning Peace

Flowers Chorus

O such a commotion under the ground,
When
called, "Ho, there! ho!"
Such spreading of rootlets far and wide,
Such whisperings to and fro!

"Are you ready?" the Snowdrop asked,
"Tis time to start, you know."

"Almost, my dear!" the Scilla replied,
"I'll follow as soon as you go."

Then "Ha! Ha! Ha!" a chorus came
Of laughter sweet and low,
From millions of flowers under the ground,
Yes, millions beginning to grow.

"I'll promise my blossoms," the Crocus said,
"When I hear the blackbird sing,"

And straight thereafter Narcissus cried,

"My silver and gold I'll bring."

"And ere they are dulled," another spoke,
"The Hyacinth bells shall ring."

But the Violet only murmured, "I'm here,"
And sweet grew the air of spring.

Then "Ha! Ha! Ha!" a chorus came
Of laughter sweet and low,
From millions of flowers under the ground,
Yes, millions beginning to grow.

And well may they cheerily laugh, "Ha! Ha!"
In laughter sweet and low,
The millions of flowers under the ground,
Yes, millions beginning to grow.
--Ralph Waldo Emerson
