Sunday Morning Sunshine: Moodiness of November

Ah, November. The gray month. Windy. Rainy. Cold.
But the poets have a plethora of material for writing poems on November.

Take your time to read these few excerpts of poems from various writers:

The naked, silent trees have taught me this,—
The loss of beauty is not always loss!
– Elizabeth Stoddard

Listen.
With faint dry sound,
Like steps of passing ghosts,
The leaves, frost-crisp'd, break from the trees
And fall.

 by Adelaide Crapsey

Our twilight month November is,
The evening of the year.
The brilliant summer noontide left
A pallor soft and clear.

--by Ruby Archer

Yet one smile more, departing, distant sun!
One mellow smile through the soft vapoury air,
Ere, o'er the frozen earth, the loud winds ran,
Or snows are sifted o'er the meadows bare.
One smile on the brown hills and naked trees,
And the dark rocks whose summer wreaths are cast,
And the blue Gentian flower, that, in the breeze,
Nods lonely, of her beauteous race the last.
Yet a few sunny days, in which the bee
Shall murmur by the hedge that skim the way,
The cricket chirp upon the russet lea,
And man delight to linger in thy ray.
Yet one rich smile, and we will try to bear
The piercing winter frost, and winds, and darkened air.

Sunday Sunshine: Seven November Blessings

The blessings just keep coming!

Sunday:  The freedom to praise God
Monday:  My cups and mugs that bring a smile to my face
Tuesday:  My son, Dan, who is gentle-hearted and kind, a defender of the underdog, loves and respects his parents, and a hard worker.  Love this boy-man of mine.
Wednesday:  A sweet friend who is so much like me she could be my daughter. She's kind and good, loving and generous! Love her to pieces.
Thursday:  The good and healthy food God has allowed us to have. The bountiful table says it all.
Friday:  A hot tub that relaxes me when I'm tense, soothes my bones when they're weary, and gives hubby and I a few minutes to catch up and share.
Saturday:  The assurance and blessing of a home in heaven.

Psalm 66:20:  Blessed be God who hath not turned away my prayers, nor his mercy from me.

HARVEST BLESSINGS!

Sunday Sunshine: Seven November Blessings

For the second Sunday in November I'm sharing these blessings in my life:

Sunday:  My heart is thankful for so many special friends that I've known throughout my lifetime. How they've blessed me!
Monday:  Things that happen in our life that hubby handles with no problems, whether serious or simple, he takes care of them so I don't have to worry (too much :) )
Tuesday:  So happy that hubby and I had the privilege of going on vacation due to my son and a sweet friend's planning and making it happen. What fun! How relaxing! So thankful!
Wednesday:  That I've been able to see two more of my writing endeavors come to publication this year of 2018!
Thursday:  Blest to have my hearing:  the sound of crackling leaves, the ability to hear the voices I love, and the music I so enjoy.
Friday:  That I found doTerra essential oils. What a blessing.
Saturday:  That God has taken me a step closer to Him. How I've needed this.

Psalm 67:5a:  Let the people praise thee, O God.

Harvest blessings!

Sunday Sunshine: Seven November Blessings

November is the month to show our extra special thankfulness. I'm planning on sharing seven
blessings each Sunday, for each day of the week. Here we go:

Sunday:  I'm thankful I have a wonderful place of worship.
Monday:  I'm thankful for my husband--a leader, an example, a true Christian.
Tuesday:  Appreciate the sunshine in between the cloudy days.
Wednesday:  Love the beautiful colors of the Autumn season.
Thursday:  Appreciate the privilege of listening to my grandson Jonathan's speech, the words he uses way above his age level, the thoughts he has, and the love he bestows on his pets.
Friday:  I love the anticipation I feel in knowing Thanksgiving Day is getting closer.
Saturday:  I appreciate God's help physically in keeping the colds away from me for over a year.

Psalm 92:1a:  It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto his name.

Harvest Blessings!

What's Better than a NEW Book?

Book Blurb:
Both rebels in their own way, Josie and Jerry Patterson must figure out
how to keep the other's love...and keep the German enemy at bay.

She has two loves—her skating and Jerry, her husband.
But when he returns home looking like a skeleton trying to return to life,
she’s scared. What happened in Germany to change a man so much?
Has another woman captured his heart?

Jerry has vowed to let Josie live her own glamourous life...
especially after what happened in Germany.
But when his wife's life is threatened,
Jerry realizes he can’t stand by and do nothing.
Jerry has to risk all for the very soul and life of himself—Josie.

These two damaged, rebellious people learn the hard way
that leaning on God instead of their own selves and abilities
is the only true way to love and happiness.

READ the First Chapter:

Chapter One
1942
Jerry Patterson stared out the yawning black hole in the side of the plane. Seconds to go before he dropped. Night time parachuting was always a risky thing, but the pilot was one of the best who’d keep this baby right on target, lessening the chances he’d have to hit water. Trees were another matter, but with any kind of luck, the landing would go smooth.
Then to meet his contact and move into the German military high life. His pulse revved up. It was a dangerous game he was about to play.
Josie’s face flashed in his mind, and Jerry felt his heart soften. How he loved his tomboy wife. She was a beautiful butterfly dancing on ice, but put her in a social setting, and she was like a wild creature let lose in a maiden aunt’s prim parlor.
Three weeks of marital bliss. It’d been heaven on earth for him. One rapturous day—and night—after another. She’d cried the night before he’d left, but had been strength personified when he’d boarded the train the next morning.
If—no, when—he got home, he’d wrap his arms around her and not let her out of his sight.
Jerry stepped into the hole and dropped rapidly, counting. One thousand...One thousand one...One thousand two... With a jerk he pulled, the parachute opened above him, and he drifted earthward toward his assignment.

Sunday Morning Peace: November

Something Told the Wild Geese

Something told the wild geese
It was time to go
Though the fields lay golden
Something whispered, "Snow."

Leaves were turning colors,
Berries, luster-glossed,
But beneath warm feathers
Something cautioned, "Frost."

All the sagging orchards
Steamed with amber spice,
But each wild beast stiffened
At remembered ice.

Something told the wild geese
It was time to fly--
Summer sun was on their wings,
Winter in their cry.

Sunday Morning Peace: November

Autumn, leaves and pumpkin spice
all things mellow and oh, so nice.

Marshmallows toasted and cinnamon apple
soft and gooey, crunch and crackle

Hot cocoa sipping
foods a'sizzling

Savoring an open fire
no problems, nothing to mar

Imagining,
thinking,
low talking,
laughing,
Daydreaming...

Sunday Morning Peace: November Quotes

November is indeed a dreary month, but what inspiration it gives!

"Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit still and watch the leaves turn."
                                    -   Elizabeth Lawrence

"Pleasures lie thickest where
no pleasures seem:
There's not a leaf that falls
upon the ground
But holds some joy of silence or of sound,
Some spirits begotten of a summer dream."
-   Laman Blanchard

"I saw old Autumn in the misty morn
Stand shadow less like silence,
listening to silence."
-   Thomas Hood, Ode: Autumn, 1827

T   hanks for time to be together, turkey, talk, and tangy weather.
H  for harvest stored away, home, and hearth, and holiday.
A  for autumn's frosty art, and abundance in the heart.
N  for neighbors, and November, nice things, new things to remember.
K  for kitchen, kettles' croon, kith and kin expected soon.
S  for sizzles, sights, and sounds, and something special that about.
That spells THANKS for joy in living and a jolly good Thanksgiving.
-   Aileen Fisher, All in a Word

November

"If it is true that one of the greatest pleasures of gardening lies in looking forward, then the planning of next year's beds and borders must be one of the most agreeable occupations in the gardener's calendar. This should make October and November particularly pleasant months, for then we may begin to clear our borders, to cut down those sodden and untidy stalks, to dig up and increase our plants, and to move them to other positions where they will show up to greater effect. People who are not gardeners always say that the bare beds of winter are uninteresting; gardeners know better, and take even a certain pleasure in the neatness of the newly dug, bare, brown earth."

- Vita Sackville-West

Monday Morning Gratitudes

The first of November
Pumpkins in the fields
A satisfying harvest signifying a good summer
Knowing that hubby loves me even in gray November
The wonderful holiday of Thanksgiving
Scarecrows that have seen better days
shorn corn fields
A harvest moon
crisp cool weather
A day that warms up as it progresses

Blessings!

Bright Morning, November Morning

November Morning
by Evaleen Stein

A tingling, misty marvel
Blew hither in the night,
And now the little peach-trees
Are clasped in frozen light.
Upon the apple-branches
An icy film is caught,
With trailing threads of gossamer
In pearly patterns wrought.
The autumn sun, in wonder,
Is gayly peering through This silver-tissued network
Across the frosty blue.
The weather-vane is fire-tipped,
The honeysuckle shows
A dazzling icy splendor,
And crystal is the rose.
Around the eaves are fringes
Of icicles that seem
To mock the summer rainbows
With many-colored gleam.
Along the walk, the pebbles
Are each a precious stone;
The grass is tasseled hoarfrost,
The clover jewel-sown.
Such sparkle, sparkle, sparkle
Fills all the frosty air,
Oh, can it be that darkness
Is ever anywhere!

Whining is anger thru a small opening. --Stuart Smalley
