Sunday Morning Sunshine: The Beauty of Autumn

Remember how fun it was to find acorns?

Squirrels really enjoy them.

A long winter's day food supply!

Who doesn't enjoy apples,

one of the top best fruits!

That includes applesauce, apple butter, apple cider.

Yum!

Who hasn't plunged into a carefully raked-up pile of colorful leaves?

The fun!

The excitement!

Grownups who are, for a few moments,

reliving their childhood activities!

The bonfires where we enjoyed

the not-so-good-for-you hotdogs.

Where family and friends gathered to laugh,

share stories and sit quietly pondering life.

It will be over this year soon in just a few more short days.

Enjoy revisiting these memories or...

create your own.

2021 Autumn will be gone before we know it!

Sunday Morning Sunshine: A Smiley Day

"It's the first day of autumn!

A time of hot chocolatey mornings,

and toasty marshmallow evenings,

and, best of all, leaping into leaves!"

--Winnie the Pooh

This makes me smile.

And we all need a smiley day!

Sunday Morning Sunshine: First Lines of Others...

Autumn Thoughts

A road like brown ribbon, A sky that is blue,

A forest of green, With that sky peeping through.

Asters, deep purple, a grasshopper's call,

Today it is summer, Tomorrow is fall.

--Edwina Fallis

In other gardens and all up the vale,

From the autumn bonfires see the smoke trail.

Pleasan summer over, and all the summer flowers,

The fire blazes, The gray smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons! Something bright in all!

Flowers in the summer, Fires in the fall.

--Robert Louis Stevenson

Down! Down!

Yellow and brown.

The leaves are falling over the town.

--Eleanor Farjeon

It's here, and beautiful weather, lovely colors, and awareness that I only have a few days to enjoy this month--my favorite.

There are only thirty-one days!

And here are a few of the reasons I LOVE October!

* the colors, oh, my!

splashing in the rain

Fresh fruit!!

Sunday Sunshine: Autumn Woods

I like the woods
In Autumn
When dry leaves hide the ground.
When the trees are bare.
And the wind sweeps by
with a lonesome rushing sound.

I can rustle the leaves
In Autumn
And I can make a bed
In the thick dry leaves
That have fallen
From the bare trees
Overhead.

Rambling Friday: October means...

Explosions!

With leaves, of course!

Colored leaves, hundreds--no, thousands, millions of them!
Red, green, yellow, orange and brown.
Fluttering in the wind, floating to the ground.
Crackling in our ears.
Made just for kids--and grownup kids, too, to jump in, play in, walk in.
Crunching under our feet.
Assaulting our noses with fall-ish smells.
Scenting the air with smoky scents.
Cushioning our bodies and outstretched arms as we gaze into the blue, blue skies of Autumn.

Happy Autumn!

Monday Morning Gratitudes

October's blessings:

1.  Leaves of color to spread on a table, to use for a school project, to line a plate, to use in a craft to walk in

2.  Cool air to fan rosy warm cheeks from the afternoon sunrays.

3.  Pumpkins to decorate, carve, set on porches and on hearths, eat.

4.  Sounds: the wind blowing promising October's rain, geese calling their friends to join them in their journey south, wherever that might be, leaves crunching on the soft moist earth, lawnmowers gobbling up the last of the grasses who dared grow an inch above where wanted, rain tapping on windows

5.  Smells: pumpkin pies, scented candles, straw bales on porches and barns, smoke from bonfires, apple pies, and apples' crisp smells

Go a little wild this October.
Breathe a little deeper.
Open your eyes wider.
Trust a little more.
Enjoy this month, this week, this day!

Blessings!

Monday Morning Gratitudes

falling leaves
colorful leaves
the smell of burning leaves
memories of playing in the leaves
children's happy face while being buried in them
the crunch of leaves
a vase full of autumn leaves
the sight of families raking leaves together
mountains of leaves that are scattered by mischievous children and animals
brooms swishing them off porches

The End of Autumn

Nothing Gold Can Stay
by Robert Frost
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold,
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Quote:
No one knows what he can do until he tries. --Publiluis Syrus
