Rambling Friday: This is November!

This is November, the thankful month. So this month, every Friday,

I will post something I'm extremely grateful for.

Today:

I'm so thankful for the protection of God on us as we've traveled,

through many years, to so many places all over our country!

What are you thankful for today?

Serious Wednesday: Welcome, Linda Weaver Clarke!

It's always a pleasure to welcome Linda to Sunnybank Secrets blog. Today, we'll learn more about her newest cozy mystery book, Amelia Moore Mysteries. It sounds fantastic! Read on!

In this mystery series, Amelia Moore is the founder of the Moore Detective Agency and specializes
in missing persons. Her cases have taken her to some very interesting places and put her in some dangerous situations. With the help of Rick Bonito, her business is flourishing. This series is available as seven individual novels or as three volumes.

In Amelia Moore Mysteries, Volume 1, they travel to exotic places such as Bali Island in Indonesia, Ireland where she gets to kiss the Blarney Stone, and Mexico where she experiences what a rain forest is really like. Volume 1 includes three cozy mysteries.

If you have longed to visit an exotic island, The Bali Mystery will take you there. When Mrs. Brody hires Amelia and Rick to find her missing brother, they find themselves in Bali, Indonesia. They are mystified why her brother quit his job, put his home up for sale, and ran off to this mysterious and exotic island without telling a soul.

Ireland is the next place you can visit with Amelia and Rick. When Amelia is hired to search for her client’s grandparents in The Shamrock Case, the case takes them to Ireland. Kate must learn about her heritage. Who are her grandparents and could they still be alive after all these years? Why did her parents leave Ireland suddenly and move to America? Is there more to this case than meets the eye?

The last place Amelia was thinking of visiting was Mexico. In The Missing Heir, Dell Murphy has passed on and left a fortune to his nephew. He wants his nephew to continue his work at the orphanage in Mexico, but there is one problem. Neal Woods is missing! If Amelia and Rick can’t find him soon, the fortune will be turned over to Dell’s brother and sister who intend to close down “Uncle Dell’s Orphanage.” If that happens, where will the children go?

In Amelia Moore Mysteries, Volume 2, they travel to the haunted Stanley Hotel at Estes Park in Colorado and Color Country in Southern Utah where they visit Zion National Park. Volume 2 includes two cozy mysteries.

In The Mysterious Doll, Pauline Jones is confused about why her boyfriend took off without telling a soul where he was going. But that isn’t all. Sam Whitaker is accused of stealing a valuable porcelain doll from the museum. His disappearance makes him look guilty, but Pauline is convinced he is innocent. When Amelia finds Sam, she realizes they need to prove his innocence. Where is the antique doll and who has taken it?

In Her Lost Love, Julie Anderson feels a need to find the man she fell deeply in love with during her youth. That was twenty-five years ago. When Julie went off to college to become a lawyer, she lost contact with her high school sweetheart. She now wants to know what became of Joey and why he stopped writing to her? This is an assignment that intrigues Amelia. The thought of finding a long-lost love seems quite romantic.

In Amelia Moore Mysteries, Volume 3, they travel to the beautiful Louisiana Bayous and visit many intriguing lighthouses along the coast. Volume 3 includes two cozy mysteries.

In Mystery on the Bayou, Amelia is approached by a woman who is concerned about the son she gave up for adoption sixteen years ago. Millie fears he has inherited Marfan’s Syndrome from her side of the family. Not only that, but she has been having nightmares that make her fear he is in danger. She petitioned the court to view the sealed records but was refused. Will Amelia and Rick be able to convince the courts to help them? If her son is in danger, will they get there in time?

In The Lighthouse Secret, Rick Bonito’s uncle supposedly drowned five years ago and his body was never found, but something did not seem right about the report. Uncle Antonio was an excellent swimmer. His disappearance seems quite suspicious to Rick’s father. He never felt the complete truth had come out about his brother. It is now up to Amelia and Rick to find out the truth about his uncle.

“This is a cozy mystery, but there is also suspense, danger and, of course, romance. You have all the makings of an exciting novel.” --Library of Clean Reads

“Amelia and Rick have the makings of being a lasting couple that readers will adore and root for. Clarke knows both her characters and locations well and it shines through each word she writes.” --Socrates Book Review

Rambling Friday: Our Failed Harvest

Oh, yeah, we're not much of a gardener family for several reasons.

Let me be clear, We love planting and having a garden so that's not the problem.

But what is the problem is:

  • pesky wild animals (like deer and rabbits and who knows what else) who also like eating food they've not worked for
  • busyness.
You see, we live a busy life with work, travel, ministry, family, and just plain life. We love being busy, but sometimes...things get a little too busy. That's where the problem comes in with gardening. Weeds don't get pulled. Watering is skimpy when we forget because we're gone or on the run with work.

Then there are the wild animals who think we live here to feed them. If they're not eating our broccoli, they're feasting on whatever else looks tempting. Keeping them out is nearly impossible. Somehow they find a way. And probably laugh each time their supper is over--at our expense, of course.

We have good intentions. We really want a garden and the produce from it. We love fresh produce and the satisfaction of eating the fruit of our gardening labors.

So there you have it. The two big reasons we seldom have much success at gardening.
Sigh.
But then, there's next year. Maybe we'll give it a shot. After all, we have all year to plan how to succeed!

Happy day!

Rambling Friday: Hobbies

Through the years, I've had several hobbies, some I still enjoy, others, I've discarded or lost interest, while still finding new creative ways to enjoy life.

Some that I've enjoyed through the past few years include:

  • quotes. Love to collect them, and this is still a keen hobby of mine. I have several journals filled with quotes.
  • photography. Can't get away from this one. If I'd chosen a different vocation, it'd be photography.
  • angels. Although I still quite a few, I've slowed down on gaining anymore. I'm borderline on this one, wondering if I should sell out. Smile.
  • coloring books for adults. This one is a new one for me, and I still enjoy it when I have time.
  • scrapbooking. I enjoy this one quite a bit, but seldom find the time to work on it regularly.
Why should you have a hobby? Here's a few thoughts:
  • Creativity: hobbies create creativity which also benefits one in their daily work habits. It also gives insight into what kind of person you are.
  • Confidence. When you enjoy doing something, such as a hobby, you usually are fairly good at it. We learn, grow in different ways and gain from challenges.
  • Hobbies help to reduce stress. Focusing on a hobby gives the body and mind something besides the stress in your life to focus on, thus a time of rest.
  • Socialize. When you find something you enjoy doing, it's always great to find others who enjoy the same hobby, share techniques, and experiences.

So give it a chance. If you don't already enjoy a hobby, search for one. What do you love to do? Walking? Try new paths, take pictures, draw a picture, write down your thoughts in a journal. Traveling? Make sure to record your journey. Cooking? Quilting? Gardening? Woodworking? Whatever you choose, relax and allow the time you spend on your hobby to help build strength in your body, mind, and soul.

Happy Hobby Day!

Where Do I Wanna Go?

For starters:

  • Minnesota this fall to my writing conference.

Crooked Creek in Gospel Hump Wilderness, Idaho

  • Idaho this spring while hubby has business. Maybe we'll get in a day or so of sightseeing.

  • Alaska would be nice. Always wanted to go. Wouldn't even mind seeing a few grizzlies, as long as they stay their distance from me. You know: you mind your business and I'll do the same.

Gondolas in Venice; Rialto Bridge in background

Gondolas in Venice
  • I'd love to go on a tour of Eastern Europe: England, France, Italy, maybe even Germany. And a few other countries around there.

The koala and the eucalyptus forming an iconic Australian pair.

  • I think I'd like to see Australia, at least some of it. No alligators, thank you.

A view of the Acapulco coastal region.

  • And more of Mexico. As long as I don't have to run into any dope-raising people. (I'm all for safe in real life. Love to write about danger (it's glamorous in fiction), but give me safe living. LOL)

And closer to home:

  • How about more dates with hubby to our usual places? Never get tired of that.
  • Been craving a good steak. Now that sounds like fun: a good steak house.
  • Coming up on the 28th: a tour of Barbour Publishing here in Ohio. Wow. That's impressive.
  • A few quick one-day visits to places of interest close by.

Then . . .
  • I wouldn't mind (never, ever) seeing N.M. and Arizona again this year.
  • Got a hankering to see California, especially northern Cal and San Francisco.
  • Been yearning for Montana.
  • NEED to see the Smokies again . . . soon!
  • A trip to North Carolina could be on the calendar, shortly.

And, forget (unless I get a reason to change my mind):
  • Florida. Sorry, too, too hot.
  • Pakistan and Iraq (I'm not into getting blown up, thank you!)
  • Swampy places: several good reasons: alligators, snakes, and creepy things.
  • Quebec: They say they really can speak English, but when I was there, they were very unfriendly.
  • Any place that has too many diseases. (I know, I know, I'm a coward. What can I say?)

So there you have it.

Now if I can only fit all that into my schedule.
